Travel to central London

By air
All airports are well connected with the city centre and there are signposts guiding you around.

From Heathrow Airport

The fastest and easiest method of transport into the centre of London is the Underground. Information about tickets, Oyster cards (cheaper than single tickets) can be found on the Transport for London website. From Heathrow airport, the easiest way to reach the conference is to take the Underground Piccadilly Line to Leicester Square. Change there to the Northern Line, and get off at Goodge Street. Alternatives routes are explained on the BAA Heathrow Airport website baa.com and at heathrow-airport-guide.co.uk/london.html

From Gatwick Airport

From Gatwick airport, take the Gatwick express train to Victoria Station. This takes about 40 minutes. From there, take the Victoria Underground Line and get off at Euston; it is then about a 5 minute walk to UCL. Use this link for information on how to get from Gatwick Airport to the centre gatwick-airport-guide.co.uk

From Stansted Airport

You can either go by train (called the Stansted Express) or by coach. Details can be found on the BAA Stansted website baa.com. Some budget airlines sell them on board the aircraft at reduced prices. Return tickets are typically cheaper than two singles.

By Eurostar
Eurostar comes right into London, at Waterloo, where you can get the Northern Line to Goodge Street, for UCL (20 min). See eurostar.com for details

By car
We strongly advise you not to come by car, as there is nowhere to park at UCL, or at most central London hotels.

Travel within the UK

Check out thetrainline.co.uk for information on train timetable and fares or nationalexpress.com for the bus option. As a rule, trains are more expensive, but faster than buses. If you drive, you can plan your route by using theaa.com.

Accommodation

Most delegates will be staying in Ramsay Hall (20 Maple Street, London W1T 5HB). This is a student residence about 5 minutes’ walk from the Lecture theatre. Rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. Soap and a hand towel are provided; if you prefer a bath towel, please bring one with you. Breakfast will be provided at Ramsay Hall. A list of hotels near UCL can be found here.

Weather and clothing

Weather in London in July should be warm but may be changeable. So be sure to bring some warmer as well as lighter summer clothes. Dress at the Summer School will be informal. Please note that you will need to walk outside to move between the Lecture Theatre, computer rooms, and residence, so please bring a raincoat or umbrella in case it rains.
