RUNES
Reconfigurable Ubiquitous Networked Embedded Systems

RUNES at the Intersect Faraday Partnership Event

Dr Lesley Hanna of Sira gave a presentation on RUNES at the 14th Intelligent Sensing Programme (ISP) Meeting, which took place on Tuesday 11 Oct 2005 at the IEE in London.

ISP provides a platform for dissemination of industry-focused research, industrial needs analysis and collaboration building. The emphasis of the day was on wireless sensing and the programme included presentations from Kent University, BP, Frost & Sullivan, CNR-Pisa, Ubisense, Ezurio and TRW Conekt.

The title of Dr Hanna's talk was "Reconfigurable Sensor Networks: The Future of Sensors?" and she described the vision of the RUNES project as well as the recent advances in technology including the middleware and the MoteMaster board. A number of scenarios including telecare, industrial automation and disaster recovery were featured. For the latter scenario, the case of a road tunnel fire was examined in detail using the visualisation software currently under development within the consortium.
