RUNES Industry Forum
RUNES Industry Forum 9 May 2005 Maritim Hotel, Munich, Germany In conjuction with the 3rd International Conference on Pervasive Computing (PERVASIVE 2005) The purpose of the Industry Forum is to present the findings of the technology roadmapping activity conducted within the RUNES project. The participants will have the opportunity to review the main issues affecting uptake of wireless technology now and in the near future, to identify what actions need to be taken to allow impediments to be overcome and to affect the future of networked embedded systems usage in Europe. The RUNES Industry Forum will be broader than the focussed visits to representative companies and organisations and it will let the project inform the industry about its work. The Industry Forum will offer a mechanism for the application scenarios which have been built to be critiqued and refined, ensuring that research objectives derived from them are validated and conformed to the needs of the real world as expressed by industry. The participants will not only be the first to see the findings of a large scale roadmapping activity in the field of networked embedded systems, but are actively encouraged to comment on them, given their experiences. We are pleased to organise the Industry Forum in conjunction with the 3rd International Conference on Pervasive Computing (PERVASIVE 2005), giving the opportunity to the participants to attend a major conference in the field of networked embedded systems at the same time. Equally, people attending the PERVASIVE 2005 Conference are very welcome to learn about RUNES and its roadmapping activity. Programme
The above sessions will allow time for discussions and short breaks between them. Each participant will receive a copy of the 5 roadmaps and an accompanying document with the analysis. Following the Industry Forum, a number of RUNES workpackage leaders will be available for discussions.
About the RUNES Technology RoadmappingWe have visited a number of organisations and captured their views into the current state of technology (with an emphasis on limitations in terms of robustness and security) as well as future developments. The main focus has been on five areas: industrial automation, automatic metering, building management, telecare and disaster recovery.
About PERVASIVE 2005PERVASIVE 2005 offers an opportunity to engage with original and significant research contributions in the area of pervasive computing technologies, systems and applications. The conference will feature contributions that present advances in computing technology toward new modes of operation (ubiquitous, continuous, and self-organized) and toward new usage models (ambient, context-aware, and integral with human activity and environments).
Venue and timeThe RUNES Industry Forum will take place at the MARITIM Hotel in Munich. The hotel is located only 300 meters from Munich central railway station (München Hauptbahnhof). It is easily reachable in about 45 minutes by public transport from Munich International Airport. The Forum is scheduled for Monday the 9th of May at 17.15pm during the Reception (Poster, Demo and Video Session) of the PERVASIVE 2005, so as to minimise any overlap with the key technical sessions of the conference.
RegistrationRegistration to the RUNES Industry Forum is free of charge and provides full access to the conference poster session and buffet-style reception. Please note that limited spaces are available and hence early registration is recommended using this form. For more information related to the RUNES Industry Forum email if@ist-runes.org |
